Who Am I?

I fell hard into the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole back in 2022. Like a lot of you, it started with a budget hot-swap kit (Royal Kludge RK61), a pack of cheap switches (Akko CS Jelly Black), and way too many late-night YouTube videos. Before I knew it, I was building board after board, chasing that perfect sound and feel.

Fast-forward to today: I’ve personally built dozens of custom keyboards and tested thousands of switches in real-world setups. I’ve gone through the same trial-and-error journey most enthusiasts do ( bad foam mods, mushy stabs, pingy cases, and endless switch swaps). That’s exactly why I started Keyboard Forge: to share what I’ve learned and bring you along on my journey.

I’m not a 10+ year veteran from Reddit, but I’ve been deep in the hobby since I started. My switch reviews here come from hands-on time on my own bench with sound tests you can actually hear, gaming sessions, typing marathons, and honest, objective scores to the best of my ability.

I’m still as obsessed as day one. My goal is simple. I want to give you straightforward, no-BS info from one enthusiast to another.

Our Methodology

I don’t just “try” switches, I put them through a rigorous testing protocol. Having installed thousands of switches across dozens of custom builds, I evaluate every component based on five critical pillars:

  1. Performance: Every switch is real-world tested in both gaming and typing environments.

  2. Sound: I analyze sound signatures, identifying “thocks,” “clacks,” and pointing out unwanted pings or scratchiness.

  3. Quality: I inspect factory lube quality, pin sturdiness, and socket fitment.

  4. Compatibility: I check keycap stem fit, pin count, and LED transparency for RGB performance.

  5. Value: I give the price-per-switch a score to distinguish true budget gems from designer names.
I don’t have any fancy equipment. I simply put the switches in the keyboard and start using them.

Keyboard Forge is an independent publication. I procure my switches directly from the community and retail market, the same way you do. My recommendations are driven by real-world use, not manufacturer sponsorship.
